Helping your child to stay safe when playing sport

  • Updated: 14 February 2022
Each year we hold a week-long event to celebrate parents’ involvement in the sporting lives of their children and their clubs. We also use the week to spread awareness about safeguarding in sport and what parents can do to keep their children safe.

Everyone has a part to play when it comes to keeping children safe in sport. Parents can support clubs, coaches and safeguarding leads to keep their child’s sport fun and safe by:

  • understanding how to spot abuse
  • knowing how to speak out when something is wrong – like speaking to the NSPCC Helpline
  • supporting children’s mental and physical wellbeing both at home and in their sport
  • playing a positive role in their child’s sport
